YAHOO: Hollywood action star Chow Yun-fat, sporting a gray beard, urged the people of his native Hong Kong to give charities more than just their cash. "This city is really good at donating money," Hong Kong news reports Chow was quoted as saying. "How about keeping that money in your pocket and donating some time? Maybe more can be accomplished." The "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" star, in Hong Kong to celebrate Mother's Day with his mum, made the appeal at a Hong Kong Red Cross event over the weekend, news reports said Tuesday. Chow has been overseas filming "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" _ the sequel to the 2003 hit, "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl." He plays a famous Chinese pirate, Cheung Po Tsai.

Source: HKSAR Top 10: 5/9/2005: Chow Yun Fat yesterday attended a Hong Kong Red Cross event. Life in Hong Kong is busy and on many occasions people will overlook people and events around them. Chow Yun Fat felt that the phenomenon absolutely needed to be improved. We should spend more time to help and care about those around us. The avid photogrpaher earlier took a photo of fallen leaves and the river and experienced life and death at the same time. Chow Yun Fat also held the hand of a child with Mediterranean anemia and studied the needle marks on his mark. Fat Jai later praised the child's courage and passion for life even amidst a serious illness.
Because his new film will not start production until mid June, Chow Yun Fat has had even more time to make preparation like horseriding and English. "I have always been afraid of riding horses. Now after three lessons I am still a little frightened. My thighs are very sore and my rear is numb. I have never had so much excitement in my life. I have to study English too. Because my wife's English has a Singaporean accent, I haven't asked her for help. I have hired an instructor who sends me tapes for me to read along." As for Mother's Day, Chow Yun Fat expressed that he has already dined with her in advance to celebrate but did not prepare any gift. He joked, "She and I don't know each other, we are practically strangers. Dining with the old lady is fine, whatever!"

Thanks Shoto!

Chow Signs For Deadly Deception
Asian star signs on for James Fargo action thriller

There are some things in life that just go perfectly together. Cookies and milk, Lennon and McCartney, Chow Yun-Fat and the high-octane action movie. With a history in such films, it comes as no great surprise but good news that the Asian star has signed on for another action thriller, Deadly Deception, which will be directed by James Fargo.

Chow will play Hong Kong detective Philip Chase, who must travel to Los Angeles (well, it was never gonna be Kentucky was it?) to hunt down his sister’s killer. Once there, Philip faces a battle of wits, and quite possibly gunplay, against criminal mastermind Jonathan Beardsley (John Leguizamo). Roselyn Sanchez (Rush Hour 2) is also on-board as a ballsy LA cop who teams up with Chase. Shooting for Deadly Deception will begin later this month in Hong Kong and the film is due for release in 2006.

Director James Fargo, who also wrote the script, knows how to handle hardened gunfighters like Chow – he started his career as a director working with Clint Eastwood on The Enforcer and Every Which Way But Loose. Since then, he's worked mainly in TV, but has moved back into film in the last few years.

Meanwhile, Chow is also attached to Andrew Goth’s high-concept Western-horror flick, The Wretched, in which he will be playing Rellik, a gun-toting bounty hunter of zombie outlaws that roam the Earth. That's right – zombies and cowboys and Chow Yun-Fat. Deadly Deception will have its work cut out to match that concept.
